Zoom Lens Creep

Equipment
When using zoom lenses, especially extra long zooms, and particularly when pointing the lens down at a subject, there is often a tendency for the lens barrel to “creep” or extend due to its own weight.

One solution which I have found works well, is to use a LENSband, which is a specially designed, robust, rubber band which straddles the lens barrel and zoom control and stops the lens from extending under gravity. They come in 16 different colours of which black matches the lens colour nicely - it is almost invisible. Also available in a glow in the dark version for night use! Amazon sells them for about £7.
" Can't you use a plain old rubber band or 'O' ring at a fraction of the cost?" Well yes you can, it just doesn't enhance the appearance of your expensive telephoto lens!

There is also a YouTube clip about it.
